The client’s request

Working ergonomically may seem simple: lift correctly, use the right equipment and avoid unnecessary strain on your body. Yet in practice, employees do not always choose the most ergonomic approach. Time pressure, routine, work organisation and teamwork all have a major influence.

Together with our members, we wanted to explore why people sometimes act differently from what they know is right, and how we can make ergonomic behaviour easier and more natural.

Our solution

During this Safety Culture Club session, the focus was not only on knowing what to do, but above all on experiencing what happens to behaviour under pressure.

Through practical experiences, statements, expert insights and a physical exercise, participants discovered how time pressure, habits, teamwork and leadership influence their ergonomic choices. These insights were then translated into concrete actions and nudges for the workplace.

Approach in brief

Not a traditional ergonomics training, but learning by experiencing, sharing and creating. Participants brought practical experiences from their own organisations, discussed familiar situations and explored together how time pressure, habits, teamwork and leadership influence ergonomic behaviour.

During a hands-on physical exercise, participants experienced first-hand how quickly choices can change when pressure increases. The insights from the session were then translated into concrete actions and nudges for the workplace.

From insight to experience

Knowing what is ergonomically correct is not always enough.

During the practical exercise, it became clear what happens when pressure increases. Time pressure, routine, teamwork and group dynamics influenced the choices participants made. This made the difference between knowing what is right and actually doing it very tangible.

From experience to action

Participants first translated their insights into a personal action for their own workplace.

They then worked in teams to create a Safety Sketch: a short, recognisable ergonomic message that encourages concrete action. The strongest ideas were selected based on recognisability, simplicity and impact, and further developed into practical nudges.

The Safety Culture Club games are available as a ready-to-use Safety Game package, exclusively for SCC members. Would you like to use this game in your organisation too? Feel free to get in touch with us.
