The client’s request

Heidelberg Materials organized a Safety Week and was looking for an original and interactive way to engage employees around safety. The challenge was how to translate safety rules and key messages into a playful yet impactful experience that truly sticks.

Our solution

We developed The Safety Games in Heidelberg Materials’ branding and around topics of their own choosing. Through this concept, employees are introduced to the company’s safety rules and values in an active way via a variety of game formats. Everything was developed bilingually (FR/NL) to reach everyone as effectively as possible.

Safety starts with us

We designed recognizable characters that depict the different situations within Heidelberg Materials. They are neutrally designed and not based on specific individuals, but through their workwear, they provide clear context and recognition during the games.

The action card as a practical tool

To increase engagement, we created an action card on which participants could fill in their answers. This card was available in Dutch and French and served as a common thread throughout The Safety Games. At the same time, the sessions included plenty of interaction to discuss the answers together.

Interactive Safety Games

The core of the Safety Week consisted of a series of interactive games that introduced employees to safety in a playful way. For example, in the Golden Rules game they chose which situation was the safest; through a search illustration based on the BENE Standards, they discovered which details reveal unsafe conditions, and they cracked a code using the CEO’s key messages. Thanks to this mix of activities, participants learned the most important safety principles in an active and engaging way, and the messages were more likely to stick.
