DENKie’s programs are designed to empower people to activate their talents and thus put them at the service of their employer and ultimately society. Our mission at Safetyboarding has always been to conduct business with impact, ensuring that organizations struggle less with absenteeism and a lack of engagement. But if entrepreneurship is a marathon, as is often said, then entrepreneurship with impact is a triathlon or an ultra-running race. Because DENKie is fully committed to mental safety and wants to have an impact by making companies and their employees happy, safe, and sustainable, we are exploring how DENKie sees its role as an impact company.
Every entrepreneur can attest to having experienced moments of fatigue and doubt. This may be even more true for impact entrepreneurs. After all, it is no easy task to ensure healthy financial results, focus on the long term and keep an eye on social impact, as so-called zebra companies do. On the other hand, there is nothing more satisfying than contributing to something bigger than yourself. Being involved makes you happy. It gives meaning to your life! It energizes. But therein also lies a significant pitfall. There are many examples of impact entrepreneurs who go to such extremes of self-sacrifice for a good cause that they ultimately burn out.
Faced with the sense of urgency surrounding the challenges they’re tackling, they sometimes find it hard to rest, to take a step back, or to take time for reflection. Impact entrepreneurs often also struggle with a chronic lack of resources, forcing them to undertake additional activities to sustain their mission. The difficulty of measuring concrete impact, especially when it comes to major problems like climate disruption and biodiversity loss, can also sometimes make impact entrepreneurs feel like they’re just a drop in the ocean. That’s precisely why DENKie, with Safetyboarding, has created very simple formats that include several indicators to measure the results of creating that safe working environment. After all, doing business with impact also means having the patience to tackle things step by step. It’s important to keep in mind the proverb that “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
The most important asset of impact entrepreneurs is their energy. It is therefore crucial for impact entrepreneurs to take care of themselves. It is a prerequisite for making a lasting impact. With Safetyboarding, we cannot take care of others – employers and employees – if we do not take care of ourselves. Otherwise, there is a risk that our wonderful impact project will bleed to death. For us, this means keeping things very simple and occasionally taking the time to think about how we can and should not necessarily do more, but how we can do things better. In co-creation with all stakeholders. By fully committing to mental safety in companies, we are helping to pave the way towards the zebra economy.
